Whether for splashing and playing in the rain, or for keeping little feet dry during the spring season and other seasons that include cold, wet weather, rain boots have long been a staple of the savvy yet stylish toddler’s wardrobe. When searching for the perfect rain boot for your littlest loved one, it is important to look for a brand and style that will ensure dryness, warmth, and countless hours of puddle stomping fun! Here are just a few of my favorite rain boots that you, too, may enjoy for your tot.
Hunter Original First Classic Rain Boot
If it’s a traditional design you’re after, you can’t go wrong with the Hunter Original First Classic Rain Boot. Not only does it rank in the top 20 children’s rain boots on Amazon, but the brand has been key in the fashion industry since 1856. This reputation is what attracted me to this boot initially, and is still one of my top picks. They are designed for children from 18 months to eight years, are handmade, lined with cotton for a comfortable fit, and incorporate a proprietary tread to decrease slipping. Although these are undoubtedly great qualities in footwear, what I appreciate most is that my toddler is able to easily put on and remove this boot without my assistance. The only slight downside to this boot is that the price point is a bit elevated and can run an average of $55.00 on sites like Zappos and Nordstrom, and up to $73.00 on Amazon.
Crocs Kids’ Handle It Rain Boot
It goes without saying that children have a more challenging time moving around freely with boots that are too heavy. There is no problem with this at all with the Crocs Kids’ Handle It Rain Boot. They are extremely lightweight and well-fitting, so when my little one wore these boots outdoors, they did not fall off, and they weren’t cumbersome to play in. When they got dirty, as was expected with heavy play, they were very easy to clean as the entire boot can be washed (even submerged) in water. They dried quickly because there is no lining. At an average price point of under $30.00, they are economical, and it may tempt buyers to purchase more than one pair since there is such a vast array of color choices!
Bogs Kids’ Classic High Waterproof Insulated Rubber Neoprene Rain Boot
These boots are similar to the Hunter Original First Classic Rain Boot, but with fun designs like colored camouflage, flowers, bubbles, and even spider webs. They are 100% waterproof and boast a four way stretch inner bootie. They are lightweight and one of the best features is their non-marking, self-cleaning outsole. Because they are taller than most rain boots, insulated with neo-tech, and lined with BOGS max-wick moisture-wicking technology, they can also be worn in snowy weather. On the low end, these sell for $44.00 on Zappos, and up to $80.00 at LL Bean, REI and DSW. Where I appreciated each of these features, the odor control technology and the handles were the top selling points for me.
Kamik Stomp Rain Boot
First off, these boots are true to size, yet allows for movement, so no guess work is needed. They, like the Hunter Original First Classic Rain Boot have a more classic or traditional style, and they provide protection from the elements. They have good traction, so mud, etc. is easier to tread through, and like the Bogs boots, they are Neoprene. The toe is reinforced, and the sole is a bit heavier than most; however, the rest of the boot is quite thin. It has a mid-ranged price point of around $30.00 on the Kamik website. I really liked these boots, and would probably try them again when my tot is older, but when my little one wore them, the heavy bottoms seemed to slow her down just a bit. For weather protection, these are great; for playtime, they present a slight challenge.
OAKI Kid’s Neoprene Rain Boots
Oakiwear Children’s Neoprene Rain, Snow, and Muck Boots are perfect for a more active child. They can be used for everyday use on the playground or even hiking and camping. They are 100% waterproof and insulated, and they also include ankle protection. These boots can be worn in all weather types. Like other well-made, all season boots, these are made of neoprene rubber and provide a nice grip that allows children protection from slipping easily. These boots are offered in a variety of colors and patterns and are very easy to clean. At $49.99 on the OAKI website, they are decently priced for their well-made design and quality materials. I also love the side handles that allow for my little one to easily remove them. For me, these boots are certainly in the running for my favorite rain boot. The only thing that hinders it from being my favorite is that, like the Kamiks, the bottoms are slightly heavy.
Capelli New York Jelly Rain Boots
At under $20.00, the Capelli New York Rain Boots are certainly one of the most economical boots on the list. They are well-made, flexible, and lightweight, but they run large and buyers may benefit by purchasing a size smaller. These come in a number of colors and designs, so finding a pair to meet your liking shouldn’t be difficult at all. They are cute, comfortable, and great for the rainy spring season. Where the boots themselves are well-crafted, the greatest draw for me was the price.
KomForme Kids Rain Boots
Like many other children’s rain boots, these come in a plethora of designs and colors. They reminded me of the OAKI boots as they are designed with the active child in mind. They are made of 100% rubber, and not only are they durable enough to handle an energetic child’s activities, they provide safety through it all. My active tot roughhoused in these for hours without so much as a scuff on these little “wonder boots.” They are non-toxic, and they include a non-slip embossed sole and elastic rubber for supple movement. Inside, the boots are made with a 100% cotton interior for supreme comfort and warmth. They are also easy to clean with just water. At only $19.99, parents can take advantage of the price point and supply their child with a few of the diverse styles and designs!
Hatley Kids Limited Edition Rain Boots
These boots are made for puddles and mud! They are waterproof, vulcanized rubber boots with a 100% cotton lining and detachable insole. What I liked best about these is that they are eco-friendly and contain no PVC. They do run large, but they are designed for walking and playing for long periods of time, and they are easy to put on and take off. They are very well made with quality materials known to be long-lasting.
Stonz Natural Rubber Rain Boot
This boot is definitely my favorite! It is made of 100% all-natural rubber and is rip resistant. It is also a Canadian designed boot, so there is no doubt that it is made for cold, wet weather. These boots aren’t made with materials that use lead or other harmful additives, and even the glue is free of formaldehyde. These eco-friendly qualities are extremely important to my family. The Stonz Natural Rubber Rain Boot is flexible, yet durable, and it includes a cotton lining so that feet stay warm and dry. They are also priced well at around $35.00. My toddler was able to walk, run, and play with ease because of its flexibility, and their durability is obvious.
These are just a few of the many rain boots available to toddlers and small children. When searching for the perfect rain boot for your little prince or princess, keep these things in mind. When it’s wet and murky outdoors, a hardy pair of rain boots is more of a necessity than an option. As well, remember that you have a toddler – an energetic toddler that will love to jump and stomp in puddles and play in the rain! Irritation and injuries may occur if they aren’t properly fitted for your child’s feet. As such, always be sure to have his or her feet measured for the correct size; make sure that there is ample space between the tips of the boot and your little one’s toes, and finally, always pay attention to any appearance of irritation on your child’s foot.
In addition to these, keep in mind that personal preferences will make for both a happy parent and child.
- Would you rather purchase boots made of natural materials?
- Eco-friendly materials?
- Do you want to purchase boots that are true to size, or would you rather buy larger to provide for room to grow?
- Also, keep in mind that all boots will need to be cleaned from time to time. Is low maintenance best for you?
If so, take a glance at the cleaning instructions provided before you purchase.
Again, rain boots are a wardrobe necessity for toddlers and children. These will enable them to explore and feel a certain amount of freedom in a cornucopia of weather types without fear of their feet getting frosty or damp. Choose the style and design that will allow your little one to express his or her unique personality, and you will assuredly have a have a happy little tot in your midst!
